Melissa Lewyn (she/her) is a New York based director and theatermaker. She is a proud NYC native and graduate of Northwestern University (Go Cats!) and The Dalton School. She is also a proud alumnus of the National Theatre Institute’s Advanced Directing Semester at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

Melissa has directed at Stevens Institute of Technology, Actor’s Temple Theatre, The Tank, and Soho Playhouse. She has assistant-directed at the New York Musical Festival as well as Broadway Bound Theatre Festival. Melissa was also the first theatrical assistant at Annapurna Pictures, where she read new scripts and got to know the next generation of emerging theatre artists. She prides herself on leading safe, joyful, and thoughtful rehearsal rooms where every voice is championed. She believes that these environments cultivate the most compelling and engaging productions.

Melissa is most excited about directing comedic new works that empower, validate, and celebrate complex and contemporary women. She is interested in coming of age stories, plays that discuss how ambition can fracture relationships, as well as how art is often used to capitalize on trauma. When she is not geeking out about theater, you can find her working in unscripted television production/ development and eating artisanal breads.
